About Funzu
Six free two-player board games in a browser, made by one person in Poland: no account, no ads, no tracking, every rule cited to its rulebook.
What Funzu is
Funzu is a place to play six classic two-player board games in a browser — Reversi, Four in a Row, Dots, Nine Men's Morris, Paper Soccer and Sea Battle — against another person or against a practice opponent called Zu. Every game is free in full. There is no account to make, no download, no advertising and nothing to buy. Open a table, send a friend the code, and play.
It is run by Mateusz Kraśniewski - Usługi Informatyczne, from Poland, in two languages.
What it does not do
Funzu sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device until you ask to play. There is no analytics script, no advertising network and no tracker of any kind on any page. The servers are in Warsaw. What is kept, and why, is written out in plain words in the privacy notice.
Where the rules come from
Every rules page cites the published rules it follows, inline, in the publisher's own form. Reversi follows the USOA Official Rules of Othello and World Othello Championship rule WOC IV.8 for scoring. Four in a Row and Sea Battle follow the boxed games' printed instructions. Dots follows zagram.org, the reference the Polish and Russian playing communities use. Paper Soccer and Nine Men's Morris have no governing body, and their pages say so rather than inventing one — what they describe is exactly what this site's server enforces.
Where a rule on this site is the site's own rather than a rulebook's, the page says that too, at the point where the rule is taught. A claim with no source is not a rule here; it is something somebody remembered.
Who checks
The same person who writes the rules plays them, and every rule on every page is enforced by the same code that runs the match — the page and the server cannot disagree, because the diagrams on the rules pages are generated from the server's own rules. When a mistake gets through, write in and it will be fixed and the page's date will move.
How to reach us
Write to kontakt@funzu.games. It is one person on the other end, so give it a day or two. That address is the right one for a bug, a question about a game, a request about your data, or a complaint.
